Introducing The Seletti BIC Lamp
Seletti Just Turned the World's Most Iconic Pen Into a Lamp
The Collab, the Designer, the Details
Why It Actually Works
Launching at Maison&Objet 2026
Some design ideas are clever. Others are just plain fun. Seletti's new BIC Lamp is both — the Italian brand known for flipping everyday objects into statement pieces has taken the humble BIC Cristal ballpoint and blown it up into a full-size lighting fixture. Not a subtle nod, not a small easter egg — a 12-times-scale reproduction of the pen sitting in your living room, glowing.
The BIC Lamp comes from a collaboration between Seletti and BIC, designed by Mario Paroli, and it's built to reproduce the BIC Cristal at a 12:1 scale — right down to the color story. It comes in the pen's three most recognizable finishes: classic black, blue, and red. And it's not locked into one format either — you can get it as a floor lamp, a pendant light, or a wall sconce, so it slots into pretty much any room.
Seletti has built its identity around what its art director, Stefano Seletti, calls memory-driven design — taking objects that already live in people's heads and reimagining them into something new. A pen is about as universal as it gets: everyone has picked one up, clicked it, chewed on the cap, lost a dozen of them. That familiarity is exactly why blowing it up into a lighting object works — it's instantly recognizable, but completely reframed.
It helps that the BIC Cristal isn't just a random object to riff on. It's sold more than 120 billion units since 1950 and has pieces sitting in the permanent collections of MoMA and the Centre Pompidou. Few products get to claim both "everyday staple" and "design icon" status — the BIC Cristal genuinely does.
The BIC Lamp is making its debut at Maison&Objet's January 2026 edition, timed to close out the celebrations of BIC Cristal's 75th anniversary. It's a fitting stage — one of the industry's biggest fairs for design, furniture, and lifestyle trends — for a piece that's equal parts nostalgia and novelty.
